Vacancies are advertised through the UW Department of Human Resources.
Applicants must pass the Wyoming Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission entry level exam (may be waived for officers currently certified in another state) and meet the following standards mandated by Wyoming Statute 9-1-704:
* Be a United States Citizen; * Be an adult; * Be fingerprinted. Local, state, and national fingerprint files shall be searched to determine if the applicant has a criminal record; * Not have been convicted of a crime for which he or she could have been imprisoned in a federal penitentiary or state prison; * Have a good moral character as determined by a background investigation. The hiring agency shall complete a background investigation as defined by the commission of any applicant for employment as a peace officer before the applicant may be employed or begin training as a peace officer. * Be free of any physical, emotional, or mental conditions which might adversely affect his performance of duty as a peace officer. Physical condition shall be evaluated by a person licensed to practice medicine. Emotional and mental condition shall be evaluated by a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist; Pass an oral interview examination by the hiring agency.
The Multi-Jurisdictional police officer selection test is now administered through the Wyoming Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission, 1710 Pacific Avenue, Cheyenne WY 82002. A $35 application fee is required before testing. The full battery of exams takes about 2.5 hours and will be administered at P.O.S.T. Test dates and times are assigned upon application.
The test, provided by Standard Inc., contains sections consisting of reading,
writing, spelling, vocabulary, and mathematics. A minimum score of 70 percent on
each section is required for successful completion.
